His demeanour and soft voice do not give away the steely resolve to help the needy that has made him an international celebrity.
A recipient of several honours, Kalyanasundaram, the Good Samaritan, is revered for having directed all his earnings for the cause of helping the poor.
For his tenure as librarian and teacher for 30 years, Kalyanasundaram devoted his monthly salary of Rs 20,000 entirely to help the needy, and worked as a server in a hotel to make his living.
In recognition of this achievement, the American government granted him `30 crore by choosing him the Man of the Millenium, which Kalyanasundaram distributed again, entirely for the poor.
He has been running a social outfit Palam for 57 years now, bridging benevolent donors and the poor-in-need. Microsoft is soon expected to publish the English version of his biography, apart from filming a documentary on his life.
